An update of sorts before bed
Yes, yes, I'm well aware that I've been absolutely horrid about updating this thing as of late. Too many other responsibilities, it seems. Updating the journal tends to fall into the same category as working on my stamp collection--something I'd like to do, but there are just more pressing matters.
My most loyal readers are probably already well aware that Thursday was my last day at WOKV, and today was my first at the American Culinary Federation. Going from radio to Web design is definitely a change of pace, but I'm hoping it will prove to be a good move. From a purely practical point of view it makes sense--even though I have to drive further I now have "normal" working hours, I'll have more paid time off (a lot more if you consider there are 10 company holidays on which I'll no longer be working), and oh yeah there's a salary increase, too. I really have little clue what my paycheck will look like as I will have to contribute more for health insurance, but it should be larger than what I've been seeing until I start diverting some of it into a 401k or savings account.
And the "first day" on the new job went pretty well, I'd say. Had a variety of different things to do, the usual batch of paperwork of course but also some actual editing of a few pages on the Web site. Hope to be able to share more about what I'm actually doing once I have a more complete grasp of what that is.
Now backing up to the Feast...it was a great one, really relaxing with no emotional turmoil or anything like that and more physically restful than flying halfway across the country and back last year. I don't know that I'd say the sermons and sermonettes as a whole were the best batch I've ever heard at a Feast, but there were some very good ones. I served on the special services staff, got to help some of the older folks out of their cars and so forth. We only had probably four or five that needed wheelchairs on a regular basis.
Let's see, as far as a schedule of events went...I got up to Jekyll Island around noon on the Wednesday of opening night, met up with the family at a restaurant at which I do not (and did not) eat in Brunswick before that. Thursday was of course the first holy day and afternoon services, so there was lots of time with the family that morning. Thursday evening we had oodles of people over for dinner, after which we young adults set out for the young adults mixer at which there were board games and the like. It was okay, a good opportunity to meet a few folks. On Friday, let's see...went bowling, then Friday night was the Bible study. I think Devon, Rachel, Sarah and I were the last folks out of the convention center. Rachel, by the way, played hymn accompaniment three times during the Feast, and did a very nice job with it, too.
On Saturday evening Sarah and I went for a walk on the beach (where we were ambushed by folks she knew from ABC), then later on that evening Kevin (not me, the other Kevin) came over for games. On Sunday after services Sarah and I went for a trike ride and played a couple of games of mini golf (we did better on the "difficult" course, go figure).
It seems from the looks of my pictures and video clips that there was more bowling on Monday after lunch with Sarah and my parents. On Tuesday I had lunch with Sarah and her parents, my first time eating at the Jekyll Island Club. Tasty stuff, and not too terribly pricey at lunchtime. Had planned to go cycling with Beth-Erin and Crystal that afternoon, but it drizzled on and off all day long and we opted for drier activities. Did have a chance to catch up a little bit with BE on Tuesday evening, though, we were able to just sit and chat for a while which was nice. It seems like I'm not really in touch with any of the old guard anymore. Everybody got busy with life I guess, me included.
On Wednesday there was a crowd of us that had lunch at Spanky's, then that evening we headed out to the pier to watch the sunset--which we couldn't really see because of clouds off to the west, but it was still a nice venture. Then holy day services on the Last Great Day, breakfast with the my folks, Crystal, and the T's on Friday, and then I was headed back to Jacksonville for my final week at WOKV.
And yes, that is the very, very truncated summary of the Feast, but I've spent a good 10-15 minutes writing just that and on my new work schedule it is near about my bedtime. Don't know when I'll post again, we'll just have to see how things shake out over the coming days. Goodnight!

Feast Photos
They're finally up, and you can see all 20 of them. To those to whom I've promised shots that didn't make the cut, they'll be on the way soon. Perhaps if I have time this week I might get around to writing a summary of the Feast and posting it here, we shall see.
Very tired, still getting over a cold or something of that nature. Going to bed now.
