That wasn't so bad
My visit to the dentist took less than 45 minutes, and I finally got a hygienist who didn't seemingly try to yank out a section of jawbone through brute force. Oddly enough I didn't actually see the dentist at all...but my teeth have been cleaned and I shouldn't have to do that again until late this year.

The smoke has cleared out considerably from yesterday, presumably due to a shift in winds since the fire is still burning.

Something's burning
It's smoky here today, I presume because of the wildfire up in Georgia. Got out for a little bit of a bike ride but didn't stay out there for long--no need to breathe any more of that junk than I have to.

Pizza good
Had a pretty nice Sabbath. The seniors dinner was held after services today, and Devon and I did the brief presentation on nothing (thanks to Rachel for the script for that). It was also Jennifer's last Sabbath in town before her move. Joel was back, I'm guessing maybe for the first time since November? So that was good.

Devon came over to the apartment after services, and this evening we went to get pizza at the place I went with my folks when they were down. And the pizza was good. While we were there Devon surprised me, but I won't go into specifics because you probably wouldn't believe me if I did.

Okay, so I changed my mind
And I've decided to go with a half-page format for my landscape stamps writeups. While I'll have to be succinct, I think it might actually work out better--certainly it'll be less involved. And I think it'll give the book a much more intimate, friendly sort of feel. So...that is the plan. Cradle Mountain (PDF)

One question I do have, though, is why three-ring binders for 5.5"x8" sheets of paper are so much more expensive than three-ring binders for 8"x11" sheets of paper. I have no trouble comprehending there's probably less demand for the smaller binder, but there's also less of it, and I'd think the difference in the amount of material required to produce it would mitigate the difference in cost.

I guess I'd be wrong. And just to stop some of the snide remarks from the peanut gallery, no, it wouldn't be the first time.

The week ended busy, but not bad. Worked six hours today...we didn't get many calls back for stuff for Monday, but we seemed to have plenty of material to include in the PM newscasts, so that was good.

I've been asked a couple of times what my plans are for the weekend, and I really don't have any. As lame as it might sound, I wouldn't mind spending an hour or two sorting stamps, maybe get out for a good long walk and that sort of thing. But we shall see.

In the words of Prefab Deluxe
"I'm alive"...and except for a hint of coughing/drainage seem to be more or less over the mess that plagued me last week. I even seem to not necessarily need 10 hours of sleep a night now, so maybe I'm headed in the right direction.

I finally sat down on Monday and yesterday and did a writeup on a couple of my landscape stamps. It's a bit shorter than I'd envisioned, but it's at least a start and I think it illustrates what I want to do as I have time to work on it--comments are welcome. Cradle Mountain (PDF)

It looks as though I'll be picking up a few extra hours at work this week as the afternoon anchor takes a day off.

In the words of Staind
"It's been awhile"...since I updated my journal, as I'm sure you've noticed, faithful reader. The busy-ness of the weeks leading up to the Feast of Unleavened Bread really was nothing compared to the last two weeks. I feel like maybe things are finally starting to slow down a little bit, but something will probably come up to change my mind about that.

The biggest news from the weekend is that I delivered my first sermonette yesterday. To say I was nervous would be very accurate, but I thought it went pretty well overall considering that it was uncharted waters for me. While I have no way of knowing whether there'll be others, I'm glad to have that first one out of the way!

My folks and Crystal came down for the weekend, lended some moral support. We ate out a number of times and now about all I want to do is sleep. They had a tire start going down on the drive down Friday, and by the time we got done with dinner Friday night it was about as flat as could be. Daddy got the tire changed yesterday evening just before the rains moved in, and this morning we took their car to a tire shop to get a new shoe put on it. Last night Devon joined the rest of us at the hotel where my folks stayed and we played Clue and Beyond Balderdash.

UB absolutely flew past this year. I'm used to that sort of thing happening with the Feast of Tabernacles, but not so much UB. It was one of those deals where I wouldn't have minded if it had gone on for another week despite my fatigue level.

Over the past month I've received trading requests from half-a-dozen other collectors through my Web site, including individuals in Chile and Norway. Those are arguably some of the "coolest" simply because they're exotic. Other than filling those trades, though, I've done next to nothing with my stamp collection. I did soak a paper towel full of stamps on Friday afternoon, but that's the first time I've touched the things in weeks.

I think that covers the biggest of the highlights, so I'm either going to take care of some more e-mail or try to catch a short nap before work. Later dudes.

An eventful day
To end an eventful week. Sabbath services went well, Mr. T announcing at the end of the sermon that starting probably sometime this summer Mr. D will be moving up to take over pastoral responsibilities in Jacksonville and Orlando, while Mr. T will keep Ocala and add Tallahassee. So, while I'm most disappointed Mr. T will no longer be coming to Jacksonville, I'm near about tickled pink that Tallahassee's finally getting a minister. It has been five years since they had anyone going over there on a regular and frequent basis, and I'm just happy for them.

Matt came over to my apartment after services and we talked for a bit, I read a bit while he slept, then I dozed a bit. Then Sarah called and I talked with her a good long time. It's not often the word "carpetbaggers" comes up in a sentence these days. ;-). Then a bit later on I got an unexpected call from Beth-Erin, and chatted for a while with her.

After the phone calls, we met up with Devon for a bite to eat, and after much discussion and checking out of restaurants we found a TV where Matt could see the Gators game. And then Matt and I came back here, and here we are. And it feels like it's about bedtime, so goodnight.
